It happened in Sun Valley

I got to spend my birthday up in Sun Valley, Idaho with Will.  I got to sleep in, lounge around, eat at great restaurants, go for walks, and enjoy the amazing scenery.  The resort is fantastic.  I highly recommend it.  We've stayed there twice now, and it was actually better the second time.

To be honest, most of my time was spent sitting on the bed with a book or magazine in my hand, but actually watching this:

I found this darling black and white movie made in the early 40's that I hadn't heard of.  It's called Sun Valley Serenade.  I quickly figured out that it runs about and hour and a half, and they replay it at the resort 24/7.  Apparently, it was filmed on location at that resort in Sun Valley.  It has several big names in it, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra did the music for it.  And the Glenn Miller Orchestra made some of the very best music of all time.  I own the CD of all of the songs played in this movie.  I think I watched it about 8 times.  If you ever get the chance, give it a shot.  It's cheesy.  But good, clean fun.

official trailer

So this is the official trailer from the play.  I don't love it- mostly becauseof the sound- but Spencer really likes the ending.  How humble of him.  :)

I'm going to see it again tomorrow night and then most of us are going closing night.
I think I might be all Les Mis'd out.

Les Mis Teaser

This is the teaser trailer from Spencer's play.  It's his part, but not his voice.
Does that even make sense?

Enjolras, (Spence) is in the yellow vest- in case you couldn't catch him.

as quietly as she came into our lives...

this morning we drove june to the airport.
the car ride was almost silent.  just like the drive we took 10 months ago as we drove her home to herriman.

our home has been somber and solemn.
i told will that it feels so strange, almost like someone has passed away.
we knew this was going to be hard, but we weren't quite prepared for this hard.
there have been many tears today- and my feelings are all over the place.

last night.  packing her stuff.  watching her room being emptied of her things was awful for me.

trying to make it all fit.

last family photo.  this morning before the airport.

nobody wanted to be doing this.

shifting the weight to make it work.

just waiting for the horrible moment to come.

our

final

goodbyes.

even with a packed airport- no shame in our emotions.

very last photo.  with jenny.  the same way she came into our lives.

graduation

my firstborn graduated.  such a strange feeling.  he did fantastic in school and has really set the bar high for his younger brothers.  i can't believe he's going away in two months.

Preston's Talent

Now that I think I've got this down, this is from last summer.  In August we took a trip to McCall Idaho.  We went canoeing, rented wave runners, and a ski boat.  We had a blast.  But this video is my favorite memory from the whole trip.  It's funnier to us, but if you watch Preston closely it's worth it.  Around minute 1:38.

Interesting side note:  from the amount of time the boys were on that bank, we counted over 45 mosquito bites on Brig and I don't remember how many on Preston.  They were standing in some sort of nest.  It was completely disgusting.
