not that bad

okay- so i have to admit, although the diet isn't fun, it's really not that awful. i'm not hungry, most of the time. so even though it's so little calories, hunger isn't that big of an issue. i'm more frustrated with the lack of variety of food, and the slow loss. my friends ALL lost more than me at the point i'm at. that makes me crazy. the absolute only thing i've done against the protocol is use chapstick. and that shouldn't make a difference, right? anyway-

on the positive side- it's made me look at food differently and learn the natural, unaltered way to eat it. i've learned i can enjoy most things without any oil or fat. (although plain spinach is hard for me.) at this point, i'm just a little bored with the food. and if someone was single (and didn't have to prepare food for a whole family each day) this diet would be easy peasy!! but having all the other food around, and them needing to eat the same old way they insist on eating makes it a little tough. but otherwise.... i've got about 25ish days to go.

we ended up not seeing any movie that night. without our friends to go with, we talk ourselves into stay home. pathetic, i know. and i haven't started catching fire yet. i'm not sure what i'm waiting for. preston said he liked it better than hunger games. thoughts?

last night i sat and made myself finish the rest of cranford. i really, really liked it. it was definitely 'feel good', but i liked it. i think i even cried. anyway, the important part was that while watching, i tried to knit. i couldn't find my 'project' anywhere, so i decided to start a new one. after about 10 minutes of trying to cast on, since i hadn't done that since that night at dear lizzie, i figured it out. i was dang proud. (it doesn't take much.) so i was pretty much feeling like an accomplished knitter. :)

p.s. oh yes- i would gladly put quince on a plane and send him to st. kitts. (yes, i said quince.) over the past 2 weeks or so, he's making lincoln look like the golden child.

hunger games over

the book, not the diet. dang it.

i did enjoy it abby- but i'm still shocked at the concept. truly. i think it might just be me though. the REAL hunger games are still on. only... like 35 days to go. i don't have much to say, other than it's extremely difficult. and frustrating. but i'm not giving up.

we finally got our christmas decorations, and tree, taken down today. we always wait far too long. it's been a slow saturday. will and i are thinking we'll go catch a movie. (sans popcorn and soda, which disappoints will deeply.) invictus or leap year?

or i could just start catching fire.

dinner

this is what i'd like to be eating for dinner tonight. (that's chicken bruschetta, italian salad and 'san francisco' crepes.)

instead, this is what i will be eating.

yep, 1 cup of cooked asparagus, 100 grams of shrimp, and a melba toast. (oh, and some salt and pepper.) bon appetit!

Hunger Games

i'm reading this book right now. (the title is fitting to my current lifestyle.) everyone i know liked this book. is something wrong with me? i'm 3/4 of the way through it, and i'm disturbed by the 'idea' of it, even still. please tell me i won't be feeling sick when it's over.

missing warmer days

i'm feeling envious of family living in st. kitts, or even queen creek. (is there a difference?) sometimes i wish i could fast forward utah from january to april. seriously.

last night for fhe we watched a documentary called food, inc. the boys were very intrigued. will and i watched one sunday night called fresh. i'm pretty sure they're both on youtube. highly informative and interesting, to us at least.

right now there is a giant layer of ice covering this whole area that i crunch across as i make my way to the chickens. i miss grass.
and every year about this time i start craving this. i start planning my garden about 3 1/2 months too early.

40 and counting...

while my family was all in town, we attempted a whole family photo. my sweet, sweet friend agreed to do them, although she'd never done a group our size. she does really good work, and we were pleased with the pictures from our family photos we had done in mid december. however, something went really wrong with the ones we had done as a large group. the camera went out of focus or something, because everyone on the outside of the group became blurry. in all of them. to the point that we can't even get a 4x6 printed of them. it was a huge bummer. we don't get together often, and this was probably a last chance to have it done. my friend felt horrible, and i felt horrible for her. she refunded all of the money- but it really had nothing to do with money. now i'm stuck wondering how to make her feel like it's all okay.

has it really been this long?

life has been good. we had an awesome month of december. our family managed to stay pretty healthy, we had lots of fun with friends and family, and now it's a new year fresh with resolutions and everything. (i love resolution time!)

misty spent some time while she was here showing me how to make jewelry. i love stuff like that and always knew it would be dangerous if i knew what i was doing. it's a conflict of interest- one resolution is to spend less and save more, and another is to get good at making jewelry. ???

this is something i'm currently trying to figure out how to make. yes abby, it's the 'rose is a rose'- only the one i saw was more a silve/grey band with muted beige flowers. i really, really wanted it. but will was with me. :)

i've looked all over for satin rose buds. they're hard to find, and none of them look just like these. i'm not giving up though. they're out there somewhere.
